FAQ
1️⃣ Strategic & Executive
What is the primary value of Trace Intercept?
Trace Intercept provides shared digital ground truth of assets, enabling cross-team alignment, improved planning, and more defensible decision-making.
How does Trace Intercept improve organisational performance?
It reduces ambiguity, supports structured collaboration, improves work planning, and reduces unnecessary repeat site visits.
Does this replace our work management system?
No. Trace Intercept provides structured visual context. Work orders remain within your internal systems.
Does this replace surveys or formal engineering assessments?
No. It complements existing survey and engineering processes.
Can Trace Intercept reduce site visits?
It can reduce repeat visits and improve preparation for required visits.
2️⃣ Regulators & External Access
How do regulators gain access to Trace Intercept?
Regulators must be added by the water industry organisation via SSO. Access control is defined by the organisation.
Can regulators review assets remotely?
Yes, once granted access.
Can regulators view historical captures?
Yes, if those captures exist.
Can regulators participate in live review sessions?
Yes, if included in SSO and granted access.
Can regulators download reconstruction meshes?
If the Reconstruction module is enabled and permissions allow.
Does Trace Intercept automatically notify regulators of updates?
No. Notification processes are defined by the organisation.
3️⃣ Access & Governance
Who can access Trace Intercept?
Users must be added through the organisation’s SSO configuration.
How do I get access?
Your organisation must add you as a user. You will receive login instructions from IT.
Why can’t I see certain assets?
Access may be restricted by user group or organisational configuration.
Is Trace Intercept publicly accessible?
No. Access is restricted via organisational SSO.
Can contractors be given access?
Yes, if the organisation adds them via SSO.
4️⃣ Planning & Work Orders
How do I create a work order using Trace Intercept?
Create the work order in your internal system and include a permalink to the specific asset.
Should I add the work order number inside Trace Intercept?
Leading practice is to add a note referencing the work order.
Can planners cluster work geographically?
Yes. Map view supports visual grouping and routing optimisation.
Can I check access constraints before sending crews?
Yes. Use map, surface imagery, drone context (if available), and notes.
Can crews review assets before attending site?
Yes. Imagery and notes support pre-visit preparation.
5️⃣ Capture & Equipment
How many capture kits should an area have?
This is defined by the organisation. Sufficient kits help avoid scheduling bottlenecks.
Do I need to use a drone?
No. Drone capture is optional but improves surface context.
Do I need a drone licence?
If drone capture is used, operators must comply with applicable aviation regulations.
Do I need to capture every chamber?
No. Capture priorities are defined by your organisation.
What happens if images are not oriented correctly?
Imagery may be harder to interpret. Orientation should be completed by the person who captured the asset.
How long should capture take?
Duration varies by asset and site conditions.
6️⃣ Inspection & Use
Do I need reconstruction to inspect an asset?
No. Structured imagery is sufficient for most inspection tasks.
How do I compare before and after conditions?
Switch between shot sequences by date.
What if there are no captures for an asset?
Capture may be required.
Can I zoom and rotate imagery?
Yes. 360° imagery supports full navigation.
7️⃣ Collaboration
Can multiple users view the same asset simultaneously?
Yes. The platform is browser-based.
How do I ensure everyone sees the same view?
Use permalinks.
Do I need screen sharing?
Screen sharing is optional but works well. Sharing permalinks supports multiple people on a voice only call to have the same context from their devices.
Can we run structured triage sessions?
Yes. Move asset-to-asset using shared permalinks.
8️⃣ Evidence & Audit
What does a permalink preserve?
Map position, orientation, zoom, shot sequence, and image state.
Are notes formal records?
Trace Intercept preserves context. Your organisation defines evidentiary policy.
Can permalinks be used in regulatory submissions?
Yes, if regulators have access.
Can defect records integrate with our CMMS?
Trace Intercept supports deep linking where the CMMS and corporate policy permits it, enabling the appropriate CMMS record to be brought up in a separate window.
9️⃣ Reconstruction & Measurement (Optional Module)
Is reconstruction required?
No. It is optional and used when specified by internal procedures.
When should calibration be performed?
Only when dimensional accuracy is required by work orders or SOPs.
Why does calibration length matter?
Short calibration references amplify proportional error. Longer references reduce it.
Who should perform calibration?
Leading practice is the same person who captured the imagery so that they can recreate the measurement in the real and virtual world as closely as possible.
Can reconstruction be recalibrated later?
This depends on organisational process, but in general yes.
Can we export to CAD?
Yes, if the module is enabled.
🔟 Data & Platform Behaviour
Is data siloed between water companies?
Yes, all data is restricted only to the water company which owns the asset.
Does image orientation affect measurement accuracy?
Calibration governs measurement accuracy. Orientation improves interpretability.
Does calibration persist?
Calibration persists within the reconstruction.
Are individual measurements saved?
No, unless recorded in notes.
What if upload fails?
Retry once connected. Large video uploads may take time.
